Ahmedabad : Navrachana University announced that the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has sanctioned a pioneering project titled “Can β-glucan-induced gut microbiome metabolites improve PCOS symptoms? An experimental and clinical study” under the scheme DBT Biomedical Task Force. The project has been awarded a substantial grant of Rs. 83,20,640 for the span of three years.

This project is a collaborative effort between Navrachana University and Gujarat Biotechnology University, and it will be coordinated by Dr. Darshee Baxi in the capacity of Principal Investigator and Dr. Tejal K. Gajaria as Co-investigator from the Department of Biomedical and Life Sciences, School of Science, Navrachana University along with the Principal Investigator Dr. Ravindra Pal Singh and Co-investigator Dr. Surya Ramachandran from Gujarat Biotechnology University, Gandhinagar.

Prof. A. V. Ramachandran, Mentor, School of Science, Navrachana University mentions “The collaboration between Navrachana University and Gujarat Biotechnology University exemplifies the power of interdisciplinary partnerships in addressing significant health challenges. The expertise of the investigators from both institutions will drive advancements in understanding and treating PCOS”.

“This research is vital in addressing the complex nature of PCOS, a condition with no definitive cure that often leads to infertility and metabolic complications. By leveraging the gut microbiome’s role in health, the project aims to develop new therapeutic approaches that are both impactful and accessible” says Dr. Darshee Baxi.

“The perspective of gut-microbiome modulation for unravelling molecular cross-talk among the gut-barrier, gut microbiota and β-glucan might pave the way for PCOS management through dietary interventions” adds Dr. Tejal K. Gajaria.
