Surat, Gujarat – In a unique and educational celebration of World Snake Day, Navchetan Adani Vidyalaya in Junagam hosted a snake awareness and demonstration program on Wednesday, in collaboration with Nature Club Surat. The initiative aimed to dispel myths and fears about snakes among young students while emphasizing their role in the ecosystem.

A total of 370 students from Standards 1 to 8, along with 15 teachers, actively participated in the program. The highlight of the event was a live snake demonstration, led by Krunal Trivedi, a wildlife expert and representative of Nature Club Surat.

“Snakes are not villains of the wild,” said Trivedi. “They are vital for maintaining ecological balance and are, in fact, farmers’ best friends as they control the population of rodents and pests.”

Students were introduced to poisonous, non-poisonous, and semi-poisonous snakes, with specific focus on species found in the Hazira and school vicinity, especially during the monsoon. Trivedi also provided safety tips, taught how to distinguish between snake types, and shared advice on how to respond to snake encounters in homes, fields, or schools.

The session was not just informative but interactive. Curious students eagerly asked questions ranging from “How do snakes see?” to “Can snakes hear?” – all of which were answered with enthusiasm and clarity.

“I used to be very scared of snakes,” said one Class 6 student. “But now I understand how important they are and how we should respect them instead of fearing them.”

The core objective of the event was to break age-old superstitions and misconceptions about snakes, and to foster an attitude of respect, not fear, among young learners. Teachers lauded the initiative, noting how it integrated environmental education with practical awareness.

World Snake Day, celebrated globally on July 16, promotes understanding of snakes and conservation of these misunderstood reptiles. This event in Junagam stands as a model for how education can change perceptions and build coexistence with nature.
