Mumbai | Maharashtra —- Mumbai witnessed a powerful moment of history and reflection as former Police Commissioner and ex-Director General of Police, Maharashtra, D. Sivanandhan, launched his book The Brahmastra Unleashed at the prestigious Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB). The venue, known as a fortress of Mumbai’s economic resilience, was fitting for a man who safeguarded the city during its most turbulent times.
“This is not just a book—it is a reminder of Mumbai’s darkest era and the resilience that overcame it,” said BDB President Anoop Mehta, crediting Sivanandhan’s vision for the robust security foundations of the bourse.
The sentiment was echoed by BDB Vice-President Mehul Shah, who described the former top cop as a “family member of the BDB.” He praised his unwavering support to the institution, recalling Sivanandhan’s role in inspiring initiatives such as the Roti Bank. “Hosting this launch is an honor, because his journey is deeply connected to ours,” Shah said.
The launch was attended by several eminent dignitaries, including Kirit Bhansali, Chairman of GJEPC; noted author Dr. Radhakrishnan Pillai; retired DG Sanjay Saxena; IPS officer Manish Kalwania; and industry leaders Milan Parikh and Suresh Shah.
The Book: Strategy Against the Underworld
The Brahmastra Unleashed chronicles Mumbai’s battle against organized crime in the aftermath of the 1993 serial blasts. Sivanandhan’s insider account details how the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) became a decisive legal weapon—a true “brahmastra”—in dismantling the underworld’s network.
“By 2001, we had managed to crush the backbone of organized crime in Mumbai,” Sivanandhan writes, highlighting how intelligence-driven policing and relentless operations restored safety in the financial capital.
Leadership Beyond the Uniform
The event also celebrated the human side of his leadership. Retired officer Vilas Tupe recalled operations that tested the force’s courage, while Ambadas Pote highlighted Sivanandhan’s empathy. “He was the kind of leader who stood by his officers. That trust created unshakable loyalty,” Pote said.
This theme of leadership and resilience runs through the book, offering lessons not just for law enforcement but for anyone in management or crisis leadership roles.
A Gift of Inspiration
As India approaches the festive season, many speakers urged readers to see The Brahmastra Unleashed not just as a memoir but as a source of inspiration. It combines true crime, modern history, and lessons in leadership, making it a thoughtful gift that celebrates the triumph of good over evil.
“This book is more than my story—it is Mumbai’s story of survival, courage, and victory,” Sivanandhan said in his closing remarks, as the audience gave him a standing ovation.
The Brahmastra Unleashed by D. Sivanandhan is now available and is being hailed as a must-read for those seeking to understand the interplay of crime, governance, and leadership in modern India.
