AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT : Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar commuters have exciting news: metro service between the two cities is expected to start by the end of July. The first route will link Motera in Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar, concentrating on operations up to Gandhinagar’s Ch-0 circle. The commissioner’s final phase inspection is coming up soon, after months of testing runs, which means metro services will soon be available.

Citizens commuting between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar should find things much easier with the upcoming metro service introduction. Operation will start from Motera, so daily commuters connecting the two cities will have a hassle-free trip that will reduce travel time and improve connection.

Leading this massive effort to update the transport infrastructure in the area has been the Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board. Interestingly, in 2019 the first public metro train was inaugurated, travelling from Vastral to Apparel Park, marking the start of the path towards metro connectivity. The start of metro train services in Ahmedabad was signalled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The metro track in Gandhinagar from Motera to Ch-2 has now successfully finished its trial run operation. Ninety percent of the metro stations are also getting close to completion; the track is ready and the station work is almost done. When the code of conduct is fully removed after the Lok Sabha election results, the much awaited metro line opening is predicted to happen.

Moreover, there are preparations to extend the metro line from Ch-2 to Mahatma Mandir, which should start in December. Stretching 28 km from Ahmedabad’s Motera Narendra Modi Stadium to Gandhinagar’s Mahatma Mandir, this extension would improve connection between the two cities even more.
