Surat : The Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO), a government cooperative owned by the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, is being held liable for injustice by unemployed youths and land-losers in Hazira and surrounding villages in Surat over the company management’s deliberate attempt to not hire them for various positions.

The Hazira Kantha Vistaar Vikas Sahkari Mandali Ltd. has sent a letter to Union Minister for Home and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, informing him of the long-standing injustice perpetrated by the KRIBHCO company management against unemployed youths in Hazira and nearby villages in Surat.

The unemployed youths claim that KRIBHCO has been recruiting apprentices at the local level for several years, which has been closed since 2018, and the young people are unemployed. Previously, the company held exams in Gujarati for Gujarati medium students; now, the company holds exams in English to deliberately discourage local youth from taking the tests.

The KRIBHCO Company has yet to provide permanent employment to many of the landless people. The KRIBHCO Company is currently accepting applications for security guards. However, the company has established rules that only retired army men will be recruited, and local education youths will not be given the opportunity.

“The company is directly doing injustice to our local educated unemployed youths by not giving them any concession in the recruitment of junior operators and junior technicians in the KRIBHCO plant,” Dipak Patel, president of Hazira Kantha Vistaar Vikas Sahkari Mandali Ltd, said.

“KRIBHCO has terminated the apprenticeship programme for Hazira candidates. Since 2018, no apprentices have been hired. According to KRIBHCO’s personnel manual, there is mention of age relaxation or special benefit to children of land losers and local affected families, which the company does not follow and no benefit is provided. “The government’s ratio of 85% for worker positions and 60% for officer positions for locals is not being followed,” Patel said.
