Gujarat : Vadodara Municipal Corporation Unveils Ambitious Rs 5523.67 Cr Budget for 2024-25

Vadodara : In a strategic move aligning with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) presented its draft budget, unveiling a comprehensive plan for the fiscal year 2024-25.

Municipal Commissioner Dilip Rana presented the budget estimate of Rs 5523.67 crore to the standing committee on Monday, emphasizing development initiatives and sustainability measures. The proposal reflects a visionary approach to urban planning, addressing key concerns while sparing the urban population from additional tax burdens.

The proposed budget encompasses a host of developmental projects and initiatives, totaling Rs 1650 crore, aimed at enhancing the city’s infrastructure and promoting sustainable practices. Notably, no additional tax burdens have been imposed on the urban population, but indirect rate hikes have been suggested to fund critical initiatives.

Key Developmental Highlights:

E-Vehicles Promotion: A significant aspect of the budget focuses on tax relief for e-vehicles, aligning with the global trend towards sustainable transportation. This move is expected to drive the adoption of eco-friendly modes of commuting within the city.

Water Planning and Infrastructure: A substantial allocation of Rs 497 crore is proposed for water planning over the next decade, along with the construction of a ring road, bridges, and the establishment of 24 e-charging stations to support the growing demand for electric vehicles.

Traffic Solutions: To alleviate the increasing traffic woes in the city, the budget includes plans for the construction of 10 additional bridges and road development projects. These initiatives are crucial for enhancing connectivity and addressing the challenges posed by urban congestion.

Solar Initiatives: In a bid to promote sustainable energy practices, Vadodara Municipal Corporation plans to invest Rs 15 crore in solar rooftops and solar trees. Additionally, Rs 12 crore is earmarked for the installation of extra CCTV cameras to enhance public safety, and Rs 15 crore is allocated for the installation of street lights in areas lacking adequate illumination.

Green City Initiatives: Vadodara aims to transform into a green city, emphasizing the creation of new gardens and urban forests. An expenditure of Rs 10 crore is proposed for this green initiative, contributing to the overall environmental well-being of the city.

Smart City Vadodara:

Under the banner of Smart City Vadodara, the city’s rich culture and architecture are set to be preserved and enhanced. Projects totaling Rs 1,760.72 crore, facilitated through public participation and the Smart City Fund, underscore Vadodara’s commitment to rapid development and the provision of an international standard lifestyle.
