Dahej | Gujarat —- A timely rescue operation by boat crew members at Dahej Beach saved the lives of two dolphins that were stranded in a shallow creek during low tide on Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 11:00 am on March 9, when the receding sea water left the dolphins trapped in a narrow creek near the Birla Copper Jetty. Unable to swim back to deeper waters due to the low tide, the marine animals were struggling in the muddy channel.

Workers operating the motor launch Al Haidari, which was stationed near the jetty, noticed the stranded dolphins and immediately stepped in to help.

Quick Action Prevents Tragedy

According to eyewitnesses, the boat crew quickly moved toward the creek after spotting the dolphins trapped in shallow water. Using ropes and coordinated effort, the workers carefully secured the dolphins and guided them back toward deeper water before releasing them safely into the sea.

The successful rescue brought relief and excitement among workers and locals present at the beach.

“We were worried when we saw the dolphins stuck in the creek because the water level was falling rapidly. Everyone immediately came together to rescue them and thankfully both dolphins were able to return safely to the sea,” one of the workers said.

Brave Effort by Boat Worker

One of the key contributors in the rescue operation was Shabbirbhai Sodha, who entered the muddy creek to help guide the dolphins toward the boat team.

Despite observing a religious fast that day, Sodha waded through the sticky mud and shallow water to assist in the rescue operation, an act that drew praise from his colleagues and others present at the jetty.

“Saving marine life is everyone’s responsibility. Even though it was difficult to move through the mud, we had to act quickly so the dolphins could survive,” a crew member said.

Vigilance to Protect Marine Life

Dahej’s coastal region is known to occasionally witness sightings of dolphins and other marine species. Workers at the port and along the shoreline often play an important role in protecting marine wildlife when such incidents occur.

People working at the jetty said that boat crews and coastal workers remain alert to environmental concerns and always try to respond quickly when marine animals are in distress.
