Gandhinagar | Gujarat — Gujarat has reaffirmed its status as India’s premier trade powerhouse, retaining the top spot in national exports for FY 2024-25 with shipments valued at INR 9.83 lakh crore, representing more than 27% of the country’s total outbound trade. Central to this success is Surat, globally known for Diamond, Silk, and Textile, which continues to serve as a vital engine of regional prosperity.

Surat has further solidified its status as a cornerstone of Gujarat’s trade economy, achieving a remarkable export value of USD 10.55 billion in the FY 2024-25. Surat’s export profile remains anchored by its world-class gems and jewellery sector. Surat region processes around 90% of the world’s diamonds commanding a dominant 70% of total outbound trade. Surat’s economy is evolving beyond its diamond-trading roots. The city’s industrial landscape features a growing variety of sectors, including man-made fibres, organic chemicals, mechanical machinery, and diverse textile manufacturing.

As a critical node in the global supply chain, Surat continues to extend its international reach. The United States remains its primary trading partner, accounting for 32% of total exports. The city also commands a significant presence across major Asian and Middle Eastern hubs, with Hong Kong (18%) and the UAE (14%) serving as vital corridors for high-value shipments. This global network is bolstered by established markets in Belgium and Israel, alongside emerging ties with Saudi Arabia, Thailand, among other countries.

The upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) South Gujarat, scheduled in April 2026 in Surat, will contribute to economic transformation to the Gujarat’s economy. The vision of Vibrant Gujarat is designed to complement the overarching goals of Viksit Gujarat@2047. By bringing the legacy of “Vibrant Gujarat” model to regional level, the conference bridges the gap between local MSMEs and international markets, directly supporting Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s “Vocal for Local” and “Local for Global” initiatives. The upcoming Regional Conference for South Gujarat region covering Bharuch, Dang, Navsari, Surat, Tapi and Valsad, will showcase high-growth sectors such as chemicals & petrochemicals, textiles & apparels, gems & jewellery, pharmaceuticals, agro & food processing, etc.

The VGRC serves as a dynamic platform supporting India’s Viksit Bharat@2047 vision. With the newly concluded India-EU Free Trade Agreement and the India-US Trade deal, the VGRC presents a strategic opportunity for investors to leverage South Gujarat’s unparalleled manufacturing capabilities and its pivotal role in the global supply chain.
