The Police to Population Ratio of the UN is 225, whereas India's PPR is 197 and Gujarat's PPR is 174. We are progressing towards achieving the UN and Indian percentages and will soon be hiring more police officers. Gandhinagar : The Gujarat government will increase recruitment to enhance the state police force in order to achieve the United Nations approved police strength of 225 and the national average of 174 Police to Population Ratio (PPR). 650 new Information Technology (IT) roles have been created for deployment at each police station throughout the state, as announced by the Minister of State (MoS) for home, Harsh Sanghvi, in the Gujarat state assembly on Wednesday.

The Police to Population Ratio of the UN is 225, whereas India’s PPR is 197 and Gujarat’s PPR is 174. We are progressing towards achieving the UN and Indian percentages and will soon be hiring more police officers. We established a Police Recruitment Board to ensure fair recruitment across the state.

A committee led by the Directorate General of Police (DGP), with the Additional DGP (ADGP) as administrator and secretaries for home and expenditure, will oversee recruitment based on the PPR ratio. This will result in the recruitment of police personnel in various districts,” Sanghvi explained while presenting the home department’s requests for 2024-25 in the state assembly.

Sanghvi announced the approval of 650 new IT expert roles to be assigned to every police station in the state, marking a first in the nation.

“Furthermore, due to the increasing need for staff in remote rural locations, we will be hiring additional personnel.” We have approved 200 new Police Sub Inspector (PSI) positions in response to a request for 114 constable positions at the outposts. Sanghvi said that the outposts in rural regions, formerly managed by the Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) or head constables, would henceforth work under the PSI.
