Ahmedabad | Gujarat — The announcement of statewide local body elections has triggered a major reshuffle in Gujarat’s academic and competitive exam calendar, affecting lakhs of aspirants preparing for crucial recruitment tests. Following the election schedule declared by the Gujarat State Election Commission, the Teacher Aptitude Test (TAT) Secondary examination has been officially postponed, bringing relief as well as anxiety among candidates.

The Gujarat State Examination Board confirmed that the TAT Secondary exam, originally scheduled for April 26, will now be held on May 3. The change comes after polling for local bodies across the state was fixed for April 26, making it impractical to conduct a large-scale competitive examination on the same day.

Over 2 Lakh Aspirants Affected

The TAT Secondary exam is a crucial eligibility test for aspiring teachers of Classes 9 and 10 in government and grant-in-aid schools. This year, more than 2.07 lakh candidates have registered for the exam, underlining the scale of impact the date change will have across Gujarat.

Officials clarified that the postponement is purely due to logistical reasons linked to the election process. Polling requires extensive deployment of government staff, educational infrastructure, and public resources, many of which are also used during competitive examinations.

A senior official from the examination board said, “The decision has been taken to ensure a smooth and fair process for both the election and the examination. Apart from the date change, all other instructions and provisions remain unchanged.”

Ripple Effect on Exam Calendar

The elections have not only affected TAT Secondary but are expected to impact several university and public examinations scheduled around the same period. With administrative machinery diverted toward election duties, authorities have begun reviewing exam calendars to avoid overlaps and logistical challenges.
