Gandhinagar | Gujarat — Gujarat has cemented its reputation as one of India’s most dynamic startup destinations, combining its industrial strength with a rapidly expanding innovation ecosystem that is creating opportunities for entrepreneurs, students and investors alike.

The state is now home to more than 19,000 DPIIT-recognised startups, a milestone that reflects years of policy support and investment in entrepreneurship. Gujarat’s efforts have earned national recognition, with the state securing the distinction of being ranked the Best Performing State in the Startup India Rankings by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) for five consecutive years.

A key driver behind this success has been the Student Startup and Innovation Policy (SSIP), launched to encourage innovation among young minds. Introduced in 2017 and later expanded through SSIP 2.0 under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the initiative has helped transform student ideas into viable businesses and innovative solutions.

According to official data, more than 13,000 student projects have received support at the Proof of Concept (PoC) stage, while over 4,000 Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) applications have been filed. The programme has also provided incubation and mentorship support to more than 3,200 startups. Startup awareness campaigns conducted under SSIP have reached over 22 lakh students, helping cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset across educational institutions.

At the centre of Gujarat’s startup ecosystem is the Gujarat Startup and Innovation Hub (i-Hub), established in 2019 as a single-window support platform for entrepreneurs. The facility offers legal, financial, technical and strategic guidance while supporting startups from ideation to market expansion.

Since its inception, i-Hub has directly supported around 750 startups. More than 400 ventures have benefited from seed funding worth ₹28 crore under the Startup Creation Seed Support Scheme. These startups have collectively generated over 4,000 jobs and achieved a combined market valuation of approximately ₹3,569 crore. In addition, i-Hub has facilitated private investments exceeding ₹446 crore, further accelerating startup growth across the state.

Women entrepreneurship has also emerged as a major focus area. Through the WEstart initiative and the herSTART programme, Gujarat has supported 269 women-led startups by providing mentorship, funding access and networking opportunities. Alongside incentives offered under the Gujarat Industrial Policy, these initiatives are helping women founders scale their businesses and contribute to the state’s thriving innovation economy.
