Gujarat Prisons Showcase Reformative Books at Ahmedabad Book Festival

Ahmedabad : The Gujarat Prison and Correctional Administration Department is showcasing and selling books at the Ahmedabad International Book Festival 2024 organised by the National Book Trust India from November 30 to December 8 at River Front, event centre in Ahmedabad.
The Gujarat Prisons, India, has done remarkable work in Prison administration over the last five years. Many innovative projects have been adopted to mitigate over- crowdinig of the prisoners in the jails, covid situation in the prisons, undertaken enormous vaccination programmes for the prisoners, various skill development programmes with a view to get each prisoner an additional skill while in the prison so that he can be self reliant when he walks out of the prison, various rehabilitation & reintegration programs have been envisaged, various innovative ideas like prison olympics, Prison to Pride programmes have been undertaken for the mental wellbeing of the prisoners by engaging them in various sports activities like chess, volleyball, caroms and track & field events etc. apart from socio-psychological counselling, mental wellness in general.
Improving the hygienic condition of Gujarat Prisons good work has been documented. A gist of all these activities is collated in the books viz; (1) “GUJARAT PRISONS”: The X Factor”, published by Dr.K.L.N.Rao, IPS, Director General of Police, Prisons & Correctional Administration and written by Dr.Indu Rao (2) “Jail Past & Present”, in English language, (3) “Jail: Itihas Ane Vartaman”, in Gujarati language, published by Dr.K.L.N.Rao, IPS, Director General of Police, Prisons & Correctional Administration and (4) Project Dhwani – Audio Book in association with the Gujarat Blind Association, which are physically displayed at the Stall so as to helpful to the general public as well as Non-Gujarati public in understanding about the jail life.
The main attraction of the said books is depicting the reformative-rehabilitative and innovative steps taken for inmates during the last five years. The books are sold at 10% discount and income to be generated by way of selling such books will be deposited in the “Prisoner Welfare Fund” Account.
