Gujarat : Mother-Daughter drowns in Waroli River in Sanjan

Vapi : In a heart-wrenching turn of events at the Waroli river bridge near Humran village in Sanjan, Gujarat,  a family outing took a devastating turn as a mother and her daughter tragically drowned in the river.

Vijay Kamindra Pandey, aged 45, along with his wife Gayathridevi, aged 40, and their 11-year-old daughter Gauri, residents of Dama Residence in Umargam’s Gandhiwadi, had ventured to Humaran Shiv Mandir in Sanjan for an afternoon outing.

The tranquility of the outing was shattered when Gayathridevi and Gauri accidentally fell into the river from the bridge. In a desperate bid to save them, Vijay leaped into action, attempting a rescue. However, as he sought to rescue his wife and daughter, he found himself ensnared by the pillar of the bridge.

Eyewitnesses rushed to aid Vijay, managing to rescue him from the precarious situation. The police, following the distress call, arrived promptly at the scene. Local swimmers joined in the search efforts, eventually recovering the lifeless bodies of Gayathridevi and Gauri from the river.

Officer in charge, speaking under condition of anonymity, stated, “The incident is a heartbreaking tragedy. We are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the nature of this unfortunate event. While Vijay Pandey reported the incident as an accidental fall, we are probing further to rule out any other possibilities.”

Vijay Pandey recounted to the authorities that the fatal accident occurred when his wife and daughter lost their balance while seated on the bridge’s edge, leading to their fall into the river.

Authorities have initiated an investigation, formally registering the case as an accidental death. However, given the gravity of the incident, an intensive inquiry has been launched to explore all angles, including the possibilities of suicide or foul play.
