Surat | Gujarat — Industrialists in Surat’s major manufacturing hub have sounded an urgent warning, urging authorities to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply as diesel shortages make backup power increasingly unreliable. The appeal comes from the Sachin Industrial Co-operative Society, which has formally approached Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL) to avoid power staggering and restore faulty feeders immediately.

The demand reflects growing anxiety across Surat, where thousands of factories rely on continuous electricity to keep production running.
Continuous industries fear massive losses
In a representation to the DGVCL Managing Director, society director Mahendra D. Ramoliya highlighted the vulnerability of continuous-process industries operating in the Sachin GIDC zone.
“A large number of pharmaceutical, chemical and textile processing units run round-the-clock. Even a short power disruption can halt production and cause huge economic losses,” Ramoliya said.
He added that sudden outages can damage expensive machinery, spoil raw materials and destroy finished goods. “For continuous production plants, even a brief interruption can result in losses worth crores of rupees,” he warned.
Diesel shortage worsens the crisis
Under normal circumstances, many industries rely on diesel generators as backup during power cuts. However, ongoing global tensions affecting fuel supply have disrupted diesel availability, leaving industries with limited alternatives.
“Due to the shortage of diesel and insufficient supply, industries are struggling to maintain operations during outages,” the submission noted.
Industrialists fear that if power tripping or staggering continues, production in key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals and textiles could face serious setbacks.
Urgent call for stable power supply
The industrial body has urged DGVCL to prioritise stable and uninterrupted electricity across all feeders in the Sachin GIDC area and ensure immediate repairs in case of faults.
“We humbly request the power utility to take special precautions to maintain consistent supply and restore electricity without delay,” Ramoliya stated.
Industry leaders say reliable power is critical to safeguarding Surat’s manufacturing economy and protecting jobs tied to the region’s industrial output.
