Gujarat gears up to host the Youth Olympics in 2029 and the Olympics in 2036

Gandhinagar: Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat government is preparing for the upcoming Youth Olympics in 2029 and the Olympics in 2036, to be held in Ahmedabad.
Under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat has initiated preparations to host the upcoming Youth Olympics in 2029 and the Olympics in 2036, to establish new standards in sports by organizing world-class events in the state, thereby positioning Gujarat as a model for development. Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel recently convened a high-level meeting with the Minister of State for Sports, the Principal Secretary of Sports, and senior officials to discuss these preparations. As part of these initial steps, Auda, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, and various NGOs have begun implementing several projects in areas adjacent to the city limits of Ahmedabad.
In the meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister, detailed information was presented, and extensive discussions were conducted to assess the development of infrastructure for the upcoming global sports events in the surrounding areas of Ahmedabad. The Ahmedabad Urban Area Development Authority (AUDA) has developed plans to improve facilities near the Sardar Patel Stadium and is deliberating on establishing a comprehensive infrastructure facility along the outer area of the S.P. Ring Road in western Ahmedabad. Additionally, discussions addressed the establishment of a Knowledge and Sports corridor in Manipur, Godhavi, and Garodia areas surrounding the proposed 90-meter wide ring road in the AUDA’s Development Plan (DP), situated to the west of the Sardar Patel Ring Road and the 36-meter road of Bopal-Palodia.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister was briefed about a land survey conducted in the Godhavi area by relevant state government departments and AUDA for planning the Olympics 2036. Following this, instructions were given to review the survey results and take necessary actions to establish the proposed sports, skill, and knowledge zone. The state government was assigned the task of transforming this area into a centre for sports, skills, and education. This involves assessing survey options, land acquisition, public-private partnerships, and engaging stakeholders to accelerate infrastructure development. The meeting also discussed setting time-bound plans for this initiative. Additionally, CM instructed a study to integrate the proposed Sports, Skill, and Knowledge Zones with the BRTS and Metro Rail networks to improve connectivity.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of public-private partnerships for developing these infrastructure facilities by the state government, emphasizing the importance of establishing the proposed area west of Ahmedabad city as a sports, skill, knowledge/institute zone or special zone.
