Dahod | Gujarat —- K.J. Bhabhor School of Science, run under the name of BJP MP Jashwantsinh Bhabhor, has once again landed in the eye of a storm — this time over allegations of demanding money from a student to issue a School Leaving Certificate (LC). The controversy erupted after a video recorded by the student went viral, sparking outrage in Dahod and across Limkheda taluka.
The student, who had taken admission in Standard 11 Science, alleged that school authorities refused to hand over his LC without payment. “I was told I must pay money if I want my Leaving Certificate. This is nothing but extortion,” the student claimed in the viral video, which has been widely shared on social media and messaging groups in the region.
The incident has stirred public anger, with locals questioning how such practices could take place in an institution associated with a sitting Member of Parliament. “This is shameful. If schools start treating students like customers, education becomes a business, not a service,” said Ramesh Solanki, a resident of Limkheda.
School Denies Allegations, Calls It ‘Misunderstanding’
In response, the school’s teaching staff strongly refuted the allegations. A senior teacher clarified that the student had voluntarily withdrawn after two months of classes and was required to settle pending session fees before leaving.
“We did not ask for any extra money for the LC. The student had agreed to pay the two months’ session fee, which is standard practice,” the teacher said. “The video is misleading and may have been made out of misunderstanding or miscommunication.”
The school also maintained that no irregularities were committed in issuing the certificate. “We follow all legal and administrative norms. Our school’s reputation is important to us, and we have nothing to hide,” the teacher added.
Public Reaction and Political Undercurrents
Despite the school’s clarification, the matter has become a talking point in Dahod’s political and education circles. Critics argue that this is not the first time institutions linked to MP Jashwantsinh Bhabhor have faced negative publicity. “When your name is attached to a school, the responsibility is greater. Even one such complaint damages trust,” said education activist Mahesh Parmar.
The viral video has also put pressure on local education authorities to investigate whether the school violated any rules in the fee collection process.
A Blow to Reputation
While the official version portrays the incident as a fee dispute rather than extortion, the damage to the school’s public image is undeniable. In smaller towns like Limkheda, such controversies spread fast and stick for long.
