Gandhinagar | Gujarat — In a landmark decision aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for “Vocal for Local” and “Har Ghar Swadeshi – Ghar Ghar Swadeshi,” Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced a 30 percent special market promotion incentive on Khadi and polycloth purchases across the state.
The incentive will be available from October 2, 2025, Gandhi Jayanti, until December 31, 2025, encouraging citizens to embrace Khadi not only as a symbol of India’s freedom struggle but also as a contemporary lifestyle choice.
“This is more than financial support—it is a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision and a way to empower thousands of rural artisans,” Chief Minister Patel said while making the announcement.
Khadi for Fashion, Khadi for Nation
The Chief Minister emphasized that this initiative will give momentum to Prime Minister Modi’s goal of “Khadi for Fashion – Khadi for Nation.” He added, “Every meter of Khadi bought is not just a purchase, it is an investment in self-reliance, tradition, and the dignity of our artisans.”
The special market assistance will cover a wide range of Khadi products including Asan, Shetaranji, Silk Patola, woolen sweaters, jerseys, shawls, ready-made garments, and handmade household items. By making Khadi more affordable, the government hopes to stimulate demand and expand the market for indigenous products.
Boost for Rural Artisans
Officials estimate that the decision will directly benefit artisans and societies associated with Khadi and polycloth production. “The Diwali of 2025 will be brighter for rural households engaged in Khadi production. Their skills, often passed down generations, will now fetch better returns,” said a senior Khadi Board representative.
For many artisans, this policy means stability. “We weave with our hands and hearts, but often struggle with sales. A 30% incentive will draw more people to Khadi stores,” said Rameshbhai, a Khadi weaver from Surendranagar.
Khadi Fairs to Promote Sales
To further boost outreach, the Gujarat Khadi Board will organize Khadi exhibition-cum-sales fairs across the state.
Bharuch: 5 October to 14 October 2025
Chikhli: 5 November to 14 November 2025
Vapi: 16 November to 25 November 2025
These fairs will showcase traditional as well as modern Khadi products, offering consumers a chance to purchase directly from artisans.
A Swadeshi Push for Gujarat
The initiative is expected to inject fresh energy into the Khadi sector, which holds deep cultural and historical significance in Gujarat. Beyond economics, it reinforces the symbolic message of self-reliance, sustainability, and pride in Swadeshi.
