Surat : Serious allegations have surfaced against the Managing Director of Gujarat State Agricultural Market Board in Gandhinagar for failing to take action against the Surat district registrar (cooperative societies) despite receiving four letters from the Additional Registrar (administration), Gujarat State.

The letters, issued between January 2023 and June 2023, followed representations made by Darshan Naik, the General Secretary of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) and the Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly, on August 30, 2022.

In a disturbing state of affairs, six long months have passed since the Additional Registrar’s first letter on January 3, 2023, urging an inquiry and report submission against the Surat District Registrar. Subsequent letters on April 27, 2023, May 18, 2023, and June 20, 2023, emphasized the urgency for action. However, the Managing Director has yet to initiate any steps, blatantly disregarding the orders from the Additional Registrar.

Darshan Naik, in a letter dated July 22, addressed to the Additional Registrar, has demanded immediate departmental action against the Surat District Registrar (cooperative societies) for administrative negligence. Naik has also called out the Managing Director for tacitly consenting to the registrar’s alleged mismanagement.

Cooperative societies play a crucial role in Gujarat’s social and economic fabric, and to prevent administrative negligence, district registrars are appointed across the state. It is their solemn duty to ensure that government institutions function honestly and transparently. Moreover, if any mismanagement is detected in a cooperative society, the district registrar must promptly take appropriate action.

“The allegations against the Surat District Registrar (cooperative societies) are grave and point to involvement in various scams within the cooperative sector,” says Darshan Naik. “The fact that the Managing Director of the Agricultural Board, Gujarat, has failed to act raises serious concerns about accountability and transparency in the system.”

Administrative negligence in cooperative societies can have far-reaching consequences, affecting the lives and livelihoods of countless individuals. Allegations of mismanagement and financial irregularities demand swift and decisive action to restore public trust and confidence in the system.

Darshan Naik’s plea for accountability and justice echoes the sentiments of many who seek a fair and just society. A failure to address the issues promptly could erode public faith in the cooperative sector and the government’s commitment to upholding the principles of good governance.
