Mehsana, Gujarat — Two workers lost their lives and six others sustained serious injuries when a crane came into contact with an 11,000-volt power line at the Fab Hind factory in Mandali village, located on the Ahmedabad-Mehsana highway. The incident, which occurred around 4 pm on Sunday, was caught on CCTV and has sparked outrage over workplace safety lapses in Gujarat’s industrial belt.
According to eyewitnesses, the crane was being started when it suddenly moved forward. Its extended boom struck the high-tension electricity wires passing overhead, sending a deadly current through the machine. Workers nearby, in a desperate attempt to push the crane away, were electrocuted instantly.
“All eight workers fell to the ground within moments of the crane touching the wire. No one had the chance to react. It was chaos in seconds,” said a factory employee who witnessed the shocking scene.
The victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, but two men succumbed to their injuries. The deceased have been identified as Mahant Abhimanyu (40), crane operator, resident of Bihar and Amit Arya, security guard, resident of Madhya Pradesh
Amit’s father, who also works as a security guard in another nearby unit, was devastated upon hearing the news. “We came here from Madhya Pradesh to earn a livelihood, but today I lost my son,” he said with tears in his eyes.
The six injured workers have been admitted to a private hospital and are receiving treatment. Doctors treating the injured said that while some have sustained burns and shock-related injuries, all are currently stable but remain under observation.
Police Launch Probe
Officials from Nirma Outpost, including Bharatbhai Desai and Hardikbhai Chaudhary, reached the site immediately after receiving reports. A preliminary investigation has been launched to determine whether negligence or safety violations contributed to the tragedy.
“This is a serious lapse. Industrial areas must take strict precautions when working near high-tension wires. We will investigate thoroughly,” said a police officer at the site.
