Surat : Due to the spread of Glanders disease in horses, the office of the veterinary officer and disease control liaison officer of Choriyasi taluka in Surat has issued a notification prohibiting the movement of horses, mules, and donkeys within a 5 km radius of Lal Darwaja.
Glanders is a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Burkholderia mallei. While humans can contract glanders, it is primarily a horse disease. It also affects donkeys and mules and can be contracted naturally by goats, dogs, and cats.
A glander epidemic in horses has been observed in Surat’s Laldarwaja area. The Veterinary Officer and Disease Control Liaison Officer of Choryasi Taluka has issued a notification in accordance with the Central Government’s notification “The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Disease in Animal Act-2009” Chapter-III, Part-20 prohibiting the entry and exit of horses and other equine animals within a five-kilometer radius of Surat’s Laldarwaja.
A ban on bringing horses, donkeys, mules, ponies, and other equine animals into and out of the area has been imposed. This notice will be effective for one month from the date of publication. Those who violate it will face legal consequences.
