FIASWI reappoints textile industry veteran Bharat Gandhi as chairman

Surat : Bharat Gandhi, a textile industry veteran has been reappointed as the chairman of the Federation of Indian Art Silk Weaving Industry (FIASWI) at the 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Surat.

About 136 members of FIASWI from across the country joined the offline and online AGM held in Surat. Mihir Mehta has been appointed as the president of FIASWI, while Smita Yevle as the vice-chairman.

Bharat Gandhi, Chairman of Fiaswi, while addressing the annual general meeting, said, “FIASWI along with The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), and other associations made many presentations at the central and state level.  Some of the submissions are yet to be resolved for the textile sector”

According to Gandhi, the customs duty reduction on mulberry raw silk yarn to 10 percent, fixing the floor price on the weight of imported fabrics under HSN code 5007 and impose custom duty, proposal was made for removal of basic customs duty on imported machines of warp knitting, imposition of fixed custom duty of at least Rs 100 per kg on the import of knitted fabrics covered in Chapter 60.

Modern weaving machines on which customs duty exemption is extended till March 31, 2023 should be further extended for five years, reduction of customs duty on import of synthetic yarn, non-tariff barrier on the import of finished fabric, especially the non-tariff barrier on the fabric imported from Vietnam, new incentive scheme TTDS was demanded for machinery modernization in the textile sector, but no provision or announcement was made in the budget, stated Gandhi.
