New Delhi: The “ELCINA – SEMI CEO Forum & SEMICON® India 2024 Curtain Raiser” was co-organized by ELCINA, SEMI, and MMI and was an important event for India’s fast developing electronics sector. This event emphasised the growth and innovation of the semiconductor and allied sectors, demonstrating India’s evolution from a minor participant to a prominent worldwide stakeholder in the electronics industry.

The Indian electronics sector has been continuously developing and changing, fueled by reasons such as rising consumer demand, government programmes such as “Make in India,” “India Semiconductor Mission,” and “Digital India,” and a thriving startup environment. Forums like as the ELCINA – SEMI CEO Forum and SEMICON India offer a forum for exchanging views, examining innovative technologies, and debating industry issues and prospects.

The event was attended by distinguished dignitaries, industry executives, and prominent government officials, throwing a spotlight on India’s expanding significance in the global electronics sector. The event received unwavering support and encouragement from notable figures such as Honourable Central Minister Shri Rajiv Chandrasekhar ji, Karnataka State Minister Shri Priyank Kharge ji, Joint Secretary MeitY Shri Amitesh Sinha, Secretary Karnataka IT&BT Dr (Ms) Ekroop Caur, who emphasised the importance of the Electronic Systems Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) sector.

“This event is a testament to India’s growing prominence in the global electronics landscape,” remarked Hon’ble Minister Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics & IT (MeitY), Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship of India. Semicon India has been a must-attend event for all semiconductor practitioners worldwide since its inception in 2022. Total was the curtain raiser for the third edition of Semicon India, which would be co-hosted by SEMI, which organises all major Semicon conferences worldwide.”

Mr. Amiesth Kumar Sinha, Joint Secretary, MeitY, underlined the importance of the semiconductor ecosystem in India at the SEMICON India Curtain Raiser Inaugural Session. He also emphasised MeitY’s multiple activities within the ISM framework, which encompass the full Semiconductor value chain from Silicon to Chips. As a consequence, fresh investments were starting to be made, and the government was devoted to industry and optimistic that it would become a strong foundation for our economy and India’s future. He said that the next Semicon India will be organised by SEMI in collaboration with ELCINA, with assistance from the India Semiconductor Mission.

Mr. Sinha further said that SEMICON, a worldwide trade organisation representing the electronics manufacturing and design supply chain, has grown in size. SEMICON India 2024 will be the eighth site on their worldwide roster, taking place in New Delhi from September 18th to 20th. This event will act as a demonstration and promotion platform for achievements in the Indian semiconductor sector.

The formal introduction of SEMICON, its flagship exhibition, in India by SEMI in conjunction with ELCINA was a significant feature of the event, signalling the global industry’s faith in India’s potential and the vital position of the Indian semiconductor sector in the global context.

The topic of the event, “India – Trusted Partner and Emerging Force in the Global Electronics Value Chain,” was ideally linked with India’s industry strategy. Trust is critical as India strives to become a custodian of semiconductor technology, which would have far-reaching ramifications for the global economy.

“The establishment of SEMICON India marks a significant step forward for the region, opening doors for Indian semiconductor and electronics companies to collaborate with over 3,000 SEMI member companies worldwide,” said Mr. Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI. SEMICON India will also offer a venue for important engagement in SEMI activities to support industry growth, such as workforce development, sustainability, global advocacy, and supply chain management.”

“The semiconductor industry is a vital enabler of economic growth in India,” said Mr. Sanjay Agarwal, President of ELCINA. Together with SEMI, we want to expand India’s semiconductor sector and establish ourselves as a reliable partner for chip firms globally. Sustainability, smart manufacturing, automotive, power and compound semiconductors, micro-LED, and talent development are all areas of emphasis for us.”

The partnership between ELCINA and SEMI, with its worldwide reach supporting the end-to-end electronics manufacturing and design supply chain, was enthusiastically welcomed by Mr. Rajoo Goel, Secretary General. “Our shared objectives include fostering progress, nurturing industry champions, and embracing green technologies for a sustainable future,” he said, adding that “this collaboration would accelerate the growth of the semiconductor and electronics industry in India.”

As India approaches what appears to be a golden decade, ELCINA is confident in the country’s ability to develop through devotion and inclusion. Their aim is to be a reliable partner and a driving force behind responsible success in the electronics industry.

ELCINA extended heartfelt thanks to MeitY, led by Minister Shri Chandrasekhar and his committed officials, for their tireless efforts in propelling the sector ahead. The Karnataka government, notably Shri Kharge, was praised for its proactive attitude in transforming the state into a centre for electronics and semiconductor industries.
