Daman, Union Territory – In a significant achievement for the Union Territory, Daman has been recognized as a “Promising Swachh Shehar” in the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2025, organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. This recognition underscores Daman’s growing commitment to cleanliness, sanitation, and sustainable waste management under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The prestigious award was conferred during a grand ceremony in New Delhi, where the  Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs felicitated Daman’s officials. The Collector of Daman, along with the Chief Officer and the President of the Daman Municipal Council, accepted the award on behalf of the Administrator of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.

This honour celebrates Daman’s consistent strides in enhancing urban cleanliness, improving sanitation infrastructure, and raising public awareness about hygiene practices. Officials stated that this accolade belongs equally to the dedicated sanitation workers, municipal staff, and the active participation of Daman’s citizens who played a crucial role in making the city cleaner.

Through regular cleanliness drives, systematic waste segregation, and effective implementation of smart waste management systems, Daman has shown remarkable progress. The recognition as a “Promising Swachh Shehar” sets a benchmark for other urban local bodies in the Union Territory and across the country.

Daman’s municipal leadership expressed their commitment to sustain and improve sanitation standards further, with the goal of placing Daman among India’s top cleanest cities in the upcoming years.

This award not only brings pride to Daman but also reflects the positive impact of government-led cleanliness missions on local governance and community participation.
