Daman : About five fishermen trapped in the severely damaged fishing vessel in the challenging weather conditions in mid-sea were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Daman air station.

Sources said that the fishermen had gone for fishing in the high sea in Bhakti Sai fishing vessel. Suddenly, the regional headquarters of IGG at Daman received a distress call from the flooded Bhakti Sai fishing boat, located some 29 nautical miles south west of Daman coast.

In a coordinated rescue mission, IGC Chetak aircraft from Daman air station rescued five fishermen from the severely damaged fishing vessel in challenging weather conditions.

In the first attempt, three fishermen were rescued and released safely on the Dahanu beach in Maharashtra. In the second round, two fishermen trapped in the boat  were rescued by the Daman coast guard and brought to Daman. The station’s medical team provided further first aid to the rescued people before they were handed over to local authorities for additional care and support.

Earlier, a young man who had gone fishing in a boat 37 nautical miles away in the sea of Jaffarabad suddenly fell ill and as soon as foam started coming out of his mouth, the team of Pipavav Coast Guard reached there by boat and rescued the young fisherman and brought him to the Pipavav jetty and shifted him to the hospital for treatment.

Kharwa Samaj President Kanaiyalal Solanki said that Hareshbhai Limbabhai Baraiah had gone for fishing in the Dhan Prasad fishing vessel owned by Mangabhai Bambhaniya, 37 nautical miles away in the sea. Suddenly, Hareshbhai’s health deteriorated and he started foaming at the mouth. However, Pipavav coastguard was informed urgently and the team left in boat number P419 and Hareshbhai was brought to Pipavav JTA and shifted to Rajula hospital in 108 ambulance. Currently Hareshbhai’s health is improving.
