Dahod : The Dahod District Police in Gujarat has reported a significant reduction in road accidents for the year 2024. Through a multi-dimensional approach to traffic management and extensive public awareness efforts, the police have reduced road accidents by 85 cases compared to the previous year, saving 69 lives in the process. This accomplishment has garnered praise from the Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghvi, who applauded Dahod District Police Chief Rajdipsinh Jhala and his team for their dedicated and effective work in promoting safer roads.

A central part of Dahod Police’s strategy was conducting a detailed analysis of past road accident data. By mapping incidents over the past ten years, they identified accident-prone areas and factors contributing to these accidents. Special emphasis was laid on road engineering improvements, both short-term and long-term, to address identified issues such as black spots and challenging traffic patterns.

The team implemented a range of measures including the use of drone cameras for surveillance, the deployment of interceptor vans, and the enforcement of strict penalties for traffic violations. Interceptor vans patrolled highways throughout Dahod, equipped with speed guns and breathalyzers to monitor and address common issues like speeding, wrong-side driving, and drunk driving. Helmet and seatbelt enforcement was also prioritized to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

One of the most impactful aspects of this operation was the use of Netram, a CCTV network that facilitated real-time monitoring of traffic offenses. Through Netram, the police were able to increase e-challan issuance, a digital method of penalizing traffic offenders, allowing for efficient and accurate enforcement. Over 15,000 cases of overspeeding, 13,372 cases of wrong-side driving, and 1,538 cases of rash driving were registered by September 2024 alone. Additionally, drink-and-drive cases were rigorously monitored and prosecuted.

Beyond enforcement, public engagement played a key role in the success of the initiative. The Dahod District Police organized numerous awareness programs, including seminars, rallies, and pamphlet distributions across the district. These initiatives aimed to educate the public on the importance of traffic rules and the dangers of reckless driving, creating a sense of collective responsibility among citizens.

The Dahod Police also undertook proactive measures to address structural road issues, recommending both immediate and long-term improvements to road engineering where necessary. By enhancing road design and removing hazards in high-risk areas, the district has improved safety conditions for motorists, which has contributed to the overall reduction in accidents.

The combined efforts of the Dahod District Police, local administrative bodies, and the Dahod RTO department have yielded tangible results, with 85 fewer accidents reported and 69 lives saved this year compared to last. This achievement highlights the importance of a holistic approach to traffic management, combining enforcement, technology, road engineering, and public awareness.
