GANDHINAGAR : Allegations of a multi-crore financial scandal in a cooperative sugar mill have once again come under the spotlight, with senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Dr. Tushar Chaudhary demanding immediate police action against accused persons who are allegedly still at large despite the completion of the investigation and filing of a charge sheet.
In a written representation submitted to the Director General of Police (DGP), Gujarat, Dr. Chaudhary raised concerns over the non-arrest of several accused in the alleged mismanagement and fraud case involving the Kantha Sugar Cooperative Sugar Industry Society. The case is registered at Olpad Police Station in Surat district.
According to the representation, police have already completed the investigation and filed a charge sheet in connection with alleged financial irregularities involving crores of rupees. However, some accused have reportedly been classified as “wanted” or “absconding” despite allegedly moving freely in public and continuing their routine business activities.
“This situation raises serious questions about the effectiveness and impartiality of law enforcement. If the accused are openly accessible, why have arrests not been made?” Dr. Chaudhary questioned in his submission.
The Congress Legislature Party leader alleged that the case involves serious charges, including financial mismanagement, preparation of false documents, irregular stock verification practices and alleged wrongdoing in securing loans for the cooperative society.
Seeking stricter action, Dr. Chaudhary urged the DGP to order a high-level and independent review of the entire matter. He also demanded that the responsibility for delays in arresting the accused be fixed and examined thoroughly.
“If any official has attempted to shield or protect the accused, appropriate departmental and legal action must be initiated without delay,” he stated.
The former Union Minister emphasized that public confidence in institutions depends on transparent and impartial enforcement of the law. He argued that swift action in the case is essential not only for ensuring justice but also for maintaining faith in the cooperative sector and the legal system.
The representation has intensified attention on the Kantha Sugar Cooperative fraud case, with demands growing for accountability and prompt enforcement action against all accused named in the charge sheet.
