Surat : Former Congress MLA from Nizar assembly constituency, Sunil Gamit, who currently serves as a director in Sumul Dairy, along with another Congress director, Bharat Sudam Patel, have chosen to remain silent on a burning issue involving the removal of 22 tribal women from their positions as supervisors. These women were abruptly dismissed without the approval of the Sumul Dairy board by the managing director, Arun Purohit.

The 22 tribal women, despite their invaluable contributions to the women saving scheme in Tapi and Surat districts, were stripped of their roles as supervisors overnight. It was their unwavering efforts that led to the establishment of approximately 6,000 women savings groups (WSGs), involving over 1 lakh tribal women from the aforementioned districts. These groups collectively saved Rs 100 per month, amounting to an impressive sum of approximately Rs 1 crore every month.

Sources indicate that Sunil Gamit and Bharat Sudam Patel, both directors at Sumul Dairy, enjoy close ties with senior Congress leader and Khedbrahma MLA, Dr. Tushar Chaudhary. During the previous assembly election, Dr. Chaudhary had utilized the guest house of Sumul Dairy, owing to the influence of Sunil Gamit and Bharat Sudam Patel. However, despite their association, Dr. Tushar Chaudhary, son of the late former chief minister of Gujarat, Amarsinh Chaudhary, has opted to remain silent on the plight of the 22 tribal women oppressed by the management of Sumul Dairy.

The removal of these tribal women from their supervisory positions raises questions regarding the transparency and fairness of the decision-making process at Sumul Dairy. Their significant role in empowering tribal women through the women saving scheme cannot be overlooked, and their sudden dismissal without proper justification is a matter of concern.

The silence of Sunil Gamit, Bharat Sudam Patel, and Dr. Tushar Chaudhary on this issue has raised eyebrows within the political and social spheres. As elected representatives and leaders associated with the Congress party, it is expected that they prioritize the welfare and rights of marginalized communities, including tribal women. However, their failure to address this injustice has led to disappointment among those who look up to them for support.

Efforts to reach out to Sunil Gamit, Bharat Sudam Patel, and Dr. Tushar Chaudhary for their comments on the matter have been unsuccessful thus far. The tribal women affected by this unjust decision deserve justice, and it is imperative that those in positions of power take swift action to rectify this situation.

The spotlight is now on Sumul Dairy’s management, demanding an explanation for their actions and urging them to reinstate the 22 tribal women in their rightful positions. Additionally, it is crucial for Sunil Gamit, Bharat Sudam Patel, and Dr. Tushar Chaudhary to break their silence and use their influence to advocate for the rights of these marginalized women.
