BDB Launches State-of-the-Art Precious Cargo Strong Room at Mumbai Airport T2

Mumbai, Maharashtra – In a move aimed at revolutionizing logistics for the gem and jewellery industry, the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) has inaugurated a cutting-edge strong room for precious cargo at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (T2), Departure Area, Mumbai. This new facility marks a major step forward in ensuring secure, streamlined, and efficient handling of high-value exports and imports.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of key government and industry dignitaries. Attendees included Surjit Bhujabal, Member Customs; Prachi Saroop, Principal Chief Commissioner, Customs Mumbai Zone–III; Alok Jha, Commissioner – Airport; Nilank Kumar, Commissioner (General); and Dhanayshwer Patil, Deputy Commissioner – SEEPZ, among other senior customs officials.
Prominent leaders from the gem and jewellery industry also graced the occasion, including Mehul Shah, Vice President, BDB; Kirit Bhansali, Chairman, GJEPC; Shaunak Parikh, Vice Chairman, GJEPC; Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, GJEPC; i Anup Zaveri, BDB Customs Convenor; and Ajesh Mehta, Diamond Panel Member, GJEPC.
“This facility will significantly boost the efficiency and security of personal carrying of precious cargo for both exports and imports,” said Mehul Shah. “It reflects BDB’s continued commitment to supporting our industry with world-class infrastructure.”
The strong room is expected to offer customized and secure handling solutions tailored to the needs of exporters and importers in the gem and jewellery sector. With Mumbai being India’s key export hub for diamonds and precious stones, this initiative is set to benefit thousands of industry stakeholders, especially those operating out of SEEPZ and BDB.
This milestone is part of a broader vision to strengthen India’s position as a global leader in gem and jewellery exports, ensuring smoother trade through enhanced airport infrastructure.
