Banaskantha | Gujarat — In a late-night operation, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Banaskantha Police uncovered a factory manufacturing fake Indian currency notes in Mahadeviya village of Deesa taluka. The raid, conducted on Wednesday night, led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of counterfeit notes worth over ₹40 lakh.

According to officials, the action was carried out after the LCB received specific inputs about duplicate notes being printed in the village. Acting swiftly, a team raided the site and found stacks of fake notes along with high-end printing equipment.

“The recovered notes were largely of high denominations and could have easily entered circulation. Their seizure has prevented a serious blow to the financial system,” said a senior police officer.

The two accused have reportedly confessed to running the operation. Police have seized printers, scanners and ink cartridges used in the racket. The final value of the seized currency is still being counted.

District Police Chief confirmed the arrests and said details would be shared in a press briefing. “We are investigating if the accused were part of a larger network. The possibility of the notes already reaching the market is also being examined,” he said.

The raid has triggered shock in Mahadeviya village. Locals expressed surprise that such an operation was running in their neighbourhood.

Police have sealed the premises and widened the probe to identify possible links to interstate and organised counterfeit rackets.
