New Delhi : Billionaire Gautam Adani on Friday said that his group’s port unit APSEZ has set a target of handling one billion tonnes of cargo by 2030.
Adani’s statement comes after Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) achieved 500 million tonnes of cargo handling.
Speaking on the occasion, Adani Group Chairman Adani said that the group’s port network has now grown into an integrated system of 20 ports in India and abroad, making it a major base for trade and logistics activities.
He said that APSEZ’s logistics and maritime services turnover is expected to grow fivefold in the next five years as India is entering a phase where logistics capabilities will become a strategic driver of economic growth.
Adani said the achievement is a significant step towards the group’s strategy of expanding infrastructure capacity to meet the country’s growing business and industrial demand.
Referring to the pace of expansion, he said that it had taken the company 16 years to reach the first 100 million tonnes of cargo but the growth accelerated thereafter and the latest 200 million tonnes of cargo was added in just four years.
He said the company has made organizational changes to improve performance, including adopting a three-tier structure to bring decision-making closer to the operational level.
Adani said the company is strengthening the role of its next-generation employees and partners for long-term growth.
Describing the achievement of 500 million tonnes of cargo as significant, he said that this level of achievement is not limited to statistics, but also reflects long-term vision and capacity building.
