Ahmedabad | Gujarat — In a development that has sent ripples through Gujarat’s social and political circles, Anar Patel—daughter of former Gujarat Chief Minister and Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel—has been appointed organisational president of the Khodaldham Trust. The announcement, made at the ‘Convener Meet 2026’ held at Khodaldham in Kagwad, Rajkot, is being viewed as a turning point for the influential Leuva Patidar community, especially with the 2027 Assembly elections drawing closer.

Khodaldham Trust Chairman Naresh Patel made the crucial announcement on January 21, stating that a new post had been created to further strengthen the organisation. “Sometimes, decisions have to be taken by breaking protocol. I am confident that the responsibility handed over today will bring pride to Gujarat,” Naresh Patel said while declaring Anar Patel as the president of the entire Khodaldham organisation.

With this appointment, Anar Patel will now oversee all organisational and grassroots activities of Khodaldham. She is expected to travel extensively, going from village to village to reinforce the organisation’s reach and connect Khodaldham with every household of the community.

The decision has sparked considerable discussion, as Khodaldham is not just a religious centre but also a powerful socio-cultural platform of the Leuva Patidar community. In recent years, its influence has extended into the political discourse of Gujarat, making leadership changes closely watched beyond community boundaries.

As part of organisational restructuring, new zone-level appointments were also announced. In Ahmedabad zone, a three-member committee comprising Parshottambhai Dhebaria, Kanubhai Kothia and Vitthalbhai Savalia has been entrusted with responsibilities. Bavku Undhad has been appointed as the zone chairman of Amreli district, considered the stronghold of the Leuva Patidar community.

Explaining the rationale behind Anar Patel’s elevation, Naresh Patel said the move aims to energise the organisation by bringing youth and women to the forefront. “This decision has been taken to further strengthen Khodaldham and to connect women’s power and young leadership with the organisation,” he said.

Anar Patel, who has largely worked behind the scenes until now, is known for her long-standing involvement in social service. A social entrepreneur by background, she has spent over three decades working in education, skill development and women empowerment. She is the co-founder of Manav Sadhana Trust, which today serves more than 7,000 beneficiaries, and has also spearheaded initiatives like Gramshree and Craftroots, providing livelihoods to over 35,000 artisans across 21 states.
