Surat | Gujarat — ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has achieved a major industrial milestone, announcing that its Compact Strip Production (CSP) Mill at Hazira has crossed 41 million tons of steel output — a feat the company says reflects world-class productivity and cutting-edge technology.
To put the achievement in perspective, the production volume is equivalent to building nearly 5,000 Eiffel Towers or laying railway tracks that circle the Earth about 100 times. The milestone highlights the scale and efficiency of the Hazira facility, which has steadily evolved into one of the world’s most consistent high-productivity steelmaking units.
Commissioned in 2011, the CSP Mill was the first globally to operate with a unique configuration of three tunnel furnaces and three casters aligned with a single seven-stand finishing mill. This rare setup has enabled the plant to maintain high-speed casting, produce multiple steel grades, and improve yield and reliability over the years.
A senior company spokesperson said the milestone reinforces AM/NS India’s leadership in advanced steelmaking. “Crossing 41 million tons of production from a single mill is a testament to the dedication, innovation and operational excellence of our teams. The CSP Mill continues to set new global benchmarks in productivity and efficiency,” the spokesperson said.
The commissioning of a third tunnel furnace has further strengthened the mill’s capabilities, allowing greater scalability and flexibility to meet rising demand across sectors.
The CSP Mill plays a central role in Hazira’s hot rolling operations and supplies flat steel to key industries including automotive, infrastructure, construction, engineering and consumer appliances. With increasing demand for high-quality steel, the facility is focusing on producing higher value-added grades while advancing digital transformation and sustainability initiatives.
Company officials emphasised that the achievement aligns with their long-term vision of delivering “Smarter Steels, Brighter Futures.”
Industry experts say the milestone reinforces Gujarat’s growing stature as a major industrial hub and highlights India’s expanding role in the global steel manufacturing landscape.
