Ahmedabad : A 23-year-old youth from Ahmedabad, desperate to fund his entrepreneurial dreams, stole a ₹90 lakh BMW from a showroom on S G Highway. The thief, Gaurang Goswami, was arrested after an overnight chase and extensive police surveillance.
The heist took place on Tuesday when a trailer truck arrived at the BMW showroom with six brand-new cars from Chennai. While the vehicles were being unloaded, Goswami posed as a showroom employee and fled with one of the luxury cars, deceiving the staff.
The truck driver, Rajkumar Yadav, immediately reported the theft to Sarkhej police. Acting swiftly, the police launched a search operation and tracked the car to a petrol pump on the Ahmedabad-Sanand road.
Using CCTV footage from toll booths and rural roads near Halvad, the police mapped Goswami’s escape route. Despite changing his path multiple times to evade capture, Goswami was intercepted near Nagdavas village on the National Highway connecting Rajkot’s Maliya and Morvi talukas.
The overnight operation ended with the recovery of the stolen BMW and Goswami’s arrest.
During interrogation, Goswami revealed he was a BBA graduate from Rasnal village in Jamnagar. He admitted to the theft, citing financial struggles and lack of family support as the driving forces behind his actions.
Frustrated with his inability to secure funding for his startup idea, Goswami resorted to desperate measures. According to police reports, his ambition and unemployment had pushed him to take the extreme step of stealing a luxury vehicle.
The case highlights the pressures of unemployment and financial distress among youth with entrepreneurial aspirations. It also underscores the importance of seeking lawful means to achieve one’s goals.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious of imposters and report suspicious activities promptly. Meanwhile, the stolen BMW has been returned to its rightful owners, and Goswami faces legal consequences for his actions.
