Ahmedabad | Gujarat — A 28-year-old man set himself on fire inside a private hospital in the Sarkhej area late on Wednesday night, right after a heated argument with a young woman with whom he was in one-sided love. The entire area was shaken by the horrifying event.
The man identified as Kamran, fell from the first floor in the burning state. Even though people nearby rushed to help, his injuries were too bad, and he died hours later at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
The sight of a man running through the dark on fire has left residents and hospital staff traumatized. Many say they will never forget it. The girl, who passed out in the middle of the chaos and was hurt in the fire, is getting treatment right now. The Sarkhej Police have opened an investigation into an accidental death.
Months of abuse end in tragedy
The police say that the 28-year-old woman who lived in Fatehwadi had been working at the private hospital for a number of years. Kamran, who lived in the same neighborhood, had been obsessively following her for almost six months, according to reports. He kept bothering her even though she said no many times and made it clear that she was uncomfortable.
Kamran got to the hospital around 8:30 p.m. on November 27 and confronted the young woman on the first floor. Things got out of hand quickly after a verbal fight. Staff members said that Kamran looked angry and upset.
Out of nowhere, in a shocking act of desperation, Kamran damaged hospital property, poured gasoline on himself, and lit a lighter, setting himself on fire in a matter of seconds. A hospital worker who was still shaken said, “Everything happened too quickly; we didn’t even know what he was planning.”
The hospital staff was panicked after the fire engulfed Kamran. The girl fainted on the floor as the young man set himself ablaze, as the other staff rushed to get the patients and visitors to safety.
Kamran, who was now on fire, stumbled toward the edge of the first floor in the middle of the chaos and fell. He crashed through the roof of a dental office on the ground floor, which made things worse and spread the fire even more.
People who were there fought the flames with water and fire extinguishers.
CCTV and cell phone videos showed the horrible aftermath: Kamran, still on fire, staggered onto the main road as shocked bystanders rushed to him with buckets of water, soap, and fire extinguishers.
A shopkeeper who was one of the first to help said, “He was completely disoriented, looking at his burned hands and body over and over.” “We did everything we could to put out the fire.”
An ambulance from 108 Emergency Services got there in a few minutes and took him to Sola Civil Hospital. Because his burns were so bad, he was moved to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital in Asarwa, where he died from his injuries early on Thursday.
Police start a formal investigation
S.A. Gohil, the Sarkhej Police Inspector, said that the incident was reported right away and that the team got to the hospital right away. “Because the young person died while being treated, a case of accidental death has been opened. The girl is getting medical help. “Once she is stable, her statement will be recorded,” he said.
