Ahmedabad, Gujarat –— Ahmedabad, Gujarat – In a significant crackdown on illicit drug trade, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Monday arrested two individuals, including a woman, for allegedly peddling banned narcotics in the city’s Ramol area. The arrests, stemming from an intelligence tip-off, have exposed a potential drug trafficking nexus stretching all the way to Mumbai, signaling a deepening investigation into the city’s underground drug network.
“Our informants have been very active, and we received precise information about drug smuggling in Ramol,” stated PI D.V. Dhola of the Crime Branch, confirming the arrests. “We were tipped off that a woman and a rickshaw driver were involved in selling drugs.”
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, Ahmedabad Crime Branch personnel set up a surveillance operation in Ramol. Their vigilance paid off, leading to the apprehension of Ramiz Belim and Siribanu Sheikh. Police seized 34 grams and 180 milligrams of illegal drugs from the duo, who are now facing charges for smuggling legally prohibited substances within the city.
The initial interrogation of the suspects has already yielded crucial insights. PI Dhola revealed, “Both the accused reside in the same locality. It was found that Siribanu Sheikh, the woman involved, works as a caterer and bouncer.”
The motive behind Sheikh’s alleged involvement in the drug trade paints a grim picture of desperation. “Her husband is currently in jail on a rape charge,” PI Dhola disclosed. “She claimed she entered the drug business due to an urgent need for money to secure her husband’s release.”
Further investigation has uncovered a critical link to Mumbai. “A contact named Sheikh from Bapunagar connected her with the drug mafia,” PI Dhola added. “The woman was bringing drugs from Mumbai and was on her way to sell them in Ramol when our team intercepted her.”
The Crime Branch is now diligently pursuing the Mumbai connection. “The investigation is ongoing,” police sources confirmed. “The woman stated that an unknown youth provided her with the drugs at a hotel opposite Borivali railway station in Mumbai. We are actively investigating who is behind the supply of these drugs from Mumbai.”
