Surat: In a significant move that could benefit approximately 8 lakh skilled diamond artisans in Surat and other small diamond cutting and polishing centers across Gujarat, efforts are underway to include them in the ‘Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana.’ The Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has strongly advocated for the inclusion of these skilled artisans in the scheme, similar to goldsmiths.

Dinesh Navadiya, Regional Committee member of GJEPC, recently met with Darshana Jardosh, Union Minister of State for Textiles and Railways, to discuss the situation and underscore the importance of integrating diamond artisans in and around Surat into this valuable government initiative.

The diamond industry in Gujarat, particularly in Surat, is not only a significant economic contributor but also a guardian of centuries-old craftsmanship. Advocates for this initiative believe that the inclusion of skilled diamond artisans in the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana will not only enhance the industry but also recognize and celebrate the talents of artisans who contribute to India’s global reputation.

Dinesh Navadiya, Regional Committee Member of GJEPC, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “The Diamond Industry is not just an economic contributor but a custodian of centuries-old craftsmanship. We are pleased to witness the Hon’ble Minister’s commitment to support our cause. Inclusion in the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana will not only uplift the industry but also celebrate the talents of artisans who add brilliance to India’s global reputation.”
