Surat | Gujarat —– In a significant step towards tackling malnutrition, the Adani Foundation’s “Fortune Suposhan” project celebrated National Nutrition Month across 68 villages in Umarpada taluka from September 1 to 30, 2025. Organized jointly by the Adani Foundation team and local Suposhan Sanginis, the initiative focused on spreading awareness about balanced diets, maternal and child health, and healthy lifestyles.

Launched in April 2024, the Fortune Suposhan project in Umarpada is working hand-in-hand with the government’s ICDS department to reduce the incidence of malnutrition through collective efforts and community-driven programs.

“Nutrition is the foundation of a healthy future”

The month-long celebration saw active participation from villagers in a series of engaging activities. These included nutritional plate-making competitions, family counseling sessions, group discussions, slogan writing, healthy baby competitions, joint recipe contests with ICDS workers, nutrition rallies, and block-level awareness events.

Special focus was placed on adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children, ensuring that vulnerable groups receive guidance on nutritional practices.

A spokesperson from the Adani Foundation highlighted the importance of the initiative, saying,“Nutrition is the foundation of a healthy future. Through Fortune Suposhan, we are working to empower communities with the knowledge and resources to fight malnutrition. The active role of Suposhan Sanginis, Anganwadi workers, and ASHA workers has been pivotal in this mission.”

Community-led awareness drives

Suposhan Sanginis—trained women volunteers from within the community—played a central role in mobilizing families and creating local awareness. Their grassroots efforts ensured high participation and made the campaign relatable and impactful.

PRI members, Anganwadi workers, and ASHA workers also extended strong support, making the celebration a collective success.

One of the participating Sanginis shared her experience,“Many women in our villages hesitate to discuss nutrition openly. These activities gave them the confidence to talk, learn, and adopt healthy practices for themselves and their children.”

Building healthier villages

With nearly 10,000 villagers reached through its September campaign, the Fortune Suposhan project is strengthening its role as a catalyst for change in Umarpada. By combining scientific knowledge, local participation, and government collaboration, the initiative is building a foundation for healthier, better-informed rural communities.
