Surat | Gujarat — An important initiative that has given a new impetus to rural development in the tribal-dominated Umarpada taluka of Surat district was recently realized. The Anganwadi centers reconstructed by Adani Foundation were e-inaugurated during the state-level inauguration and foundation stone laying program organized by the District Panchayat Surat. The program was attended by District Panchayat President Bhaviniben Patel, MLA Ganpatbhai Vasava, District Development Officer Shivani Goyal (IAS), along with officials, sarpanches and more than 700 villagers.

The Anganwadi of these six villages of Umarpada taluka—Pinpur, Sharda, Jhumawadi, Vakrantamba, Sevlan and Satwan—has been reconstructed on modern standards by Adani Foundation. Educational pictures based on Building as Learning Aid (BALA), colourful walls, safe structure and hygiene-based facilities have made these centres more inspiring and suitable for learning and playing for children. Special attention has been given to hygiene, safety and educational environment in the newly constructed Anganwadis, which will prove to be conducive for the physical, mental and intellectual development of children.

During the programme, the impact report of Adani Foundation includes promotion of natural farming, availability of water to farmers through solar irrigation assistance, development activities for the Kotwali community, a primitive group among the tribals, and income-generating assistance for them, employment-oriented activities for Self Help Groups (SHGs) and efforts to strengthen livelihoods based on animal husbandry.

The District Development Officer and local leaders jointly termed cooperation between government and private institutions as essential for social development. They publicly appreciated the continuous social development efforts made by Adani Foundation in Umarpada. The people of Umarpada expressed confidence that this initiative will improve health, education, sanitation and livelihood.

It will prove to be important for improving health, education, sanitation, natural farming and livelihood in Umarpada and surrounding tribal areas. The program expressed confidence that rural development is getting a new direction with the joint efforts of the government and social organizations. District Development Officer Shivani Goel, District Panchayat President Bhaviniben Patel and MLA Ganpatbhai Vasava in their addresses publicly appreciated the various social development activities and continuous efforts being carried out by Adani Foundation in Umarpada area.
