Vadodara | Gujarat — After spending nearly two and a half months behind bars, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Dediapada, Chaitar Vasava, walked out of Vadodara Central Jail on Wednesday morning to a hero’s welcome from hundreds of supporters. Granted conditional bail by the Gujarat High Court, Vasava accused the BJP leadership and police officials of framing him in a false case to silence his voice.
The scene outside Vadodara jail was charged with emotion. Supporters had gathered since early morning, raising slogans and carrying garlands. As soon as Vasava stepped out, they lifted him on their shoulders in celebration, even as police maintained heavy security to prevent any untoward incident.
‘BJP and Police Administration Framed Me’
Addressing the crowd shortly after his release, Vasava minced no words. “I was kept in jail for 80 days only because I dared to speak against corruption. The BJP and police administration worked hand in hand to frame me. I never abused anyone, but because I am an opposition MLA, they wanted to break my courage. They failed — my voice will only grow stronger.”
He alleged that certain IPS officers colluded with ruling party leaders to fabricate charges against him.
“I was arrested before an FIR was even filed. When we filed complaints, no one accepted them. This is not justice — this is dictatorship,” Vasava declared.
Bail With Strict Conditions
While welcoming the High Court’s decision, Vasava also acknowledged the restrictions placed on him. Under the bail conditions, the MLA cannot enter Dediapada constituency except for court-related proceedings. He has been directed not to engage in illegal activities and to fully cooperate with investigators. Any violation could lead to cancellation of his bail.
Despite the limitations, Vasava struck a defiant note,“This is an attempt to suppress the voice of Gujarat’s people. But such voices cannot be silenced. We will go to the Supreme Court if needed. Satyamev Jayate — truth always triumphs.”
Clash That Sparked Arrest
The case against Vasava dates back to July 5, when a heated argument broke out during a meeting of the Tribal Development Office in Dediapada, Narmada district. The clash involved Vasava and BJP taluka panchayat president Sanjay Vasava, after which an FIR was filed. Chaitar Vasava was arrested soon after and remained in custody, barring a brief bail window to attend the Assembly session.
‘BJP Cannot Tolerate Opposition’
Vasava also accused the BJP of being intolerant of dissent.“The BJP does not like that I question them on every issue — from schemes on paper to corruption on the ground. They want to crush the Aam Aadmi Party’s rise in Gujarat by jailing its MLAs. But we will not be silenced.”
He expressed regret at being unable to serve his constituents during his imprisonment but promised to remain connected to them despite the restrictions.
AAP’s Reaction and Support
The Aam Aadmi Party has stood firmly behind Vasava. Earlier in July, Surat AAP leaders submitted a petition to the District Collector, calling his arrest politically motivated and alleging a deliberate attempt to protect corrupt officials while punishing whistleblowers.
An AAP spokesperson said, “Chaitar Vasava has been targeted only because he dared to expose corruption. His release proves our stand — that truth will prevail. The people of Gujarat will give a fitting reply to the BJP in the coming elections.”
For Vasava, the road ahead remains uncertain. His inability to enter Dediapada is a significant setback with municipal elections around the corner. Yet, his release has clearly energized AAP workers across Gujarat. Political analysts say the episode could become a rallying point for the party in its battle against the BJP’s dominance in the state.
