GANDHINAGAR : Gujarat is rapidly shifting its farm administration to a digital platform, with more than 63.35 lakh farmers now registered under the state’s Farmer Registry. The initiative links a farmer’s Aadhaar-based identity with verified land records and aims to make access to government schemes faster, simpler and more transparent.
The registry is being implemented under the Digital Agriculture Mission and AgriStack framework. The Union government describes Farmer ID as a digital identity linked with state land records and designed to support delivery of multiple agricultural services.
Dr Jayanti S. Ravi, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue Department, said the registration drive is continuing across Gujarat.
“With more than 63.35 lakh farmers already registered in Gujarat, the state is continuing the process of integrating farmers’ land records into the digital system,” Ravi said.
She added that the Farmer ID can help eligible farmers access government schemes and services through a common digital identity.
Agriculture Minister Jitubhai Vaghani said the initiative could reduce the repeated submission of documents by farmers.
“The Farmer Registry is designed to create a common digital identity that can be used across agricultural schemes and services,” Vaghani said.
Once a farmer’s identity and land details are verified, a Unique Farmer ID is generated. The system can then support beneficiary identification and verification for programmes involving direct benefits, procurement, agricultural credit and subsidies.
The Centre says Farmer IDs can facilitate integration with schemes such as PM-KISAN and PM Fasal Bima Yojana, MSP-based procurement, credit delivery and agricultural input distribution.
Farmers can complete registration through supported digital channels or seek assistance from Common Service Centres and other local government-supported facilities. The registry also allows land details to be updated when eligible holdings are missing.
The longer-term objective is to connect farmer identity, land records and crop information. This could support digital crop surveys, targeted assistance and technology-based agricultural services.
Gujarat has been an early participant in the national AgriStack initiative. In December 2024, the state became the first to generate Farmer IDs for 25% of its targeted farmer base.
With the registry expanding, the state is seeking to build a single digital gateway for farmers. The system is intended to reduce paperwork while improving verification and delivery of government assistance.
