VAPI : Daman’s electoral roll has shrunk by nearly one-third following the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with the final voter list released on Friday showing just 92,232 voters, against 1,36,364 registered before the revision exercise.
The sharp decline follows a door-to-door verification and mapping exercise aimed at cleaning up the electoral roll and identifying deceased, absent, migrated and otherwise ineligible voters.
Before the SIR draft was prepared, Daman had 1,36,364 registered voters as of June 4, 2026. The electorate comprised 69,996 men, 67,367 women and one transgender voter.
Forms were distributed to all registered voters, but 41,220 forms, or around 30%, were not returned.
Officials attributed the unreturned forms to several reasons, including 1,686 deaths, 31,726 cases of absence, 6,653 permanent migrations, 467 previously registered entries and 688 other cases.
The draft electoral roll published on July 10 contained 95,144 voters, including 45,494 men and 49,650 women. No transgender voter was listed in the draft roll.
The subsequent mapping exercise flagged discrepancies or mapping-related issues in 39,236 cases, triggering further verification.
Following the verification process, 4,340 voters were declared ineligible, resulting in the final electoral roll of 92,232 voters.
The final list comprises 44,116 male and 48,116 female voters, with no transgender voter recorded.
“The SIR exercise was undertaken to verify electoral entries and ensure that the final roll reflects eligible voters,” election officials said.
The final figure represents a 33% decline from the 1,36,364 voters registered before publication of the draft roll.
The scale of the reduction makes the SIR exercise particularly significant for Daman, where thousands of entries were subjected to verification following non-return of forms, discrepancies in mapping and eligibility checks.
Officials said the final electoral roll has been prepared after completing the prescribed verification process.
