Two habitual offenders have been arrested by Narol Police in Ahmedabad for allegedly posing as police officers and robbing a 68-year-old man near Cozy Hotel in the Narol area.

The accused have been identified as Ayub Shah Diwan, 32, a resident of Vatva Char Rasta, and Ravi Shankar alias Virusingh Rajput, 31, a resident of Narol. Police said both were arrested after investigators examined CCTV footage and technical evidence linked to the case.

According to police, the incident took place on the morning of June 22, when the victim, Vajheg Damor, was travelling on his motorcycle from Narol Circle towards Dev Hotel. Near Cozy Hotel, an autorickshaw allegedly intercepted him.

Two men stepped out of the autorickshaw and introduced themselves as police officers. They allegedly accused the elderly man of failing to pay wages to one of his workers on time and threatened to implicate him in a false criminal case.

Police said the accused initially demanded ₹45,000 from the victim. When he said he could not arrange the money, they allegedly searched his pockets, took ₹10,500 in cash, seized important documents, and fled from the spot in the autorickshaw.

After the victim lodged a complaint, Narol Police registered a robbery case and began an investigation. CCTV footage from the area helped police identify the suspects, while technical evidence further supported the case against them.

Police said both accused have previous criminal records. Ayub Shah Diwan has been booked in seven cases, including similar offences involving impersonation of police officers. Ravi Shankar alias Virusingh Rajput has five cases registered against him, including house-breaking and theft.

Narol Police Inspector J B Agrawat said the arrests were made based on CCTV and technical evidence. Police are now investigating whether the accused were involved in similar offences in Ahmedabad or nearby districts.
