VALSAD : The conviction of Dediapada MLA Chaitar Vasava has triggered a fresh political storm in Gujarat, with Valsad-Dang MP Dhaval Patel launching a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party leader and welcoming the court’s decision as a victory for the rule of law.
Reacting to the verdict in the forest officer assault case, Dhaval Patel said the punishment awarded by the court reflected the seriousness of the crime and sent a strong message that no individual is above the law.
“The crime committed by Chaitar Vasava and his nine associates is serious. The court has examined the facts and delivered its judgment accordingly. We respect both the court and the law, and such criminals must be punished,” Patel said.
The MP was referring to the court’s decision to sentence Vasava to seven years in prison in connection with the attack on a forest department official. Patel alleged that the conviction was not an isolated incident but part of a larger pattern of behaviour.
“Chaitar Vasava had been involved in several serious offences in the past. This verdict highlights the consequences of repeated lawlessness,” he said.
Taking a political swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party, Patel also linked Vasava’s conduct to the leadership style of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal.
“He has followed in the footsteps of his boss Arvind Kejriwal. Public representatives are expected to uphold the law, not challenge it,” Patel remarked.
The remarks are likely to intensify the political confrontation between the BJP and AAP in Gujarat, where both parties have been engaged in fierce exchanges over governance and accountability.
