AHMEDABAD : In a major push to strengthen Gujarat’s healthcare and sports infrastructure, a world-class Spine Institute, Sports Injury Centre, and Rehabilitation Centre will be developed at Ahmedabad Medicity at an estimated cost of ₹295 crore, marking a significant step toward positioning the state as a global leader in sports medicine.
The ambitious project comes amid rising cases of spine-related disorders and increasing medical demands linked to upcoming international sporting events. Officials say the integrated facility will provide advanced diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation services under one roof, catering to both athletes and the general public.
A high-level review meeting on the project was held in Gandhinagar under the chairmanship of Minister Shri Praful Pansheriya, with senior officials from the Health Department, Director of the Government Spine Institute Dr. Piyush Mittal, and representatives from the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) in attendance.
Speaking after the meeting, Shri Pansheriya highlighted Gujarat’s long-term vision. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Gujarat is preparing to host the Commonwealth Games 2030 and the Olympic Games 2036. This institute will play a crucial role in providing world-class medical care and rehabilitation facilities to our athletes within the state,” he said.
He further emphasized that the project is not limited to treatment alone but aims to transform Gujarat into a global hub for sports medicine and spine care. “Our objective is to build a system that integrates treatment, research, and education, enabling Gujarat to lead in advanced healthcare innovation,” he added.
