Kolkata, India – For more than five decades, Hanshi Shivaji Gaanguly has dedicated his life to the practice, promotion, and preservation of authentic martial arts. A respected name in the world of Kyokushin Karate, he has not only trained generations of martial artists but has also played a historic role in positioning India on the global martial arts map.

With over 50 years of experience in martial arts, Hanshi Shivaji Gaanguly is a 9th Dan Black Belt in Kyokushin Karate and a direct disciple of the legendary Sosai Mas Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin Karate. His lifelong commitment to discipline, physical excellence, and character development has earned him recognition among martial arts practitioners both in India and internationally.

His journey as an instructor began in the 1980s with the establishment of Karate Point, a training institution that became known for its commitment to authentic full-contact karate. Building upon decades of experience and evolving training methodologies, the academy was rebranded in 2018 as Shivaji Gaanguly’s Academy Mind and Body, reflecting a broader vision that integrates martial arts, fitness, nutrition, and mental wellness under one roof.

What sets the academy apart is its commitment to authentic martial arts lineage and comprehensive development. Students receive training in traditional Kyokushin Karate, one of the world’s most demanding and respected full-contact karate styles. The academy also offers Kickboxing, recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, along with Filipino Martial Arts, a practical combat system known for its focus on weapons training and self-defense techniques.

Beyond physical training, the academy emphasizes overall well-being by incorporating fitness coaching, nutritional guidance, and mental wellness practices. This holistic approach has made it a preferred destination for individuals seeking complete mind-body development rather than just martial arts instruction.

One of Hanshi Shivaji Gaanguly’s most significant achievements is the establishment of the World Karate Council Kyokushin (WKC Kyokushin), an international organization founded in India. This milestone is particularly noteworthy because it marks the first time an Indian martial artist has established an international Kyokushin governing body with India serving as its global headquarters.

Today, the World Karate Council Kyokushin has expanded its reach across 10 countries, strengthening international collaboration among martial artists while promoting the values of discipline, respect, perseverance, and continuous self-improvement. Under Hanshi Gaanguly’s leadership, India has emerged as an important center for global Kyokushin activities.

For Hanshi Shivaji Gaanguly, martial arts has always been more than combat training. It is a lifelong journey of self-discovery, personal growth, and service to society. Through decades of teaching and mentorship, he has inspired countless students to develop confidence, resilience, and leadership skills that extend far beyond the dojo.

As martial arts continue to gain popularity worldwide, Hanshi Shivaji Gaanguly’s contributions stand as a testament to what dedication, vision, and authenticity can achieve. His efforts have not only preserved the true spirit of Kyokushin Karate but have also created opportunities for future generations of Indian martial artists to gain international recognition.

Through Shivaji Gaanguly’s Academy Mind and Body and the World Karate Council Kyokushin, his legacy continues to grow, shaping stronger individuals and advancing the global martial arts community from its headquarters in India.

About Shivaji Gaanguly’s Academy Mind and Body

Based in Kolkata, Shivaji Gaanguly’s Academy Mind and Body is a premier martial arts and wellness institution offering authentic Kyokushin Karate, Kickboxing, Filipino Martial Arts, fitness training, nutrition guidance, and mental wellness programs. Founded on decades of martial arts excellence, the academy is committed to developing disciplined, confident, and healthy individuals through holistic training methodologies.
