Ahmedabad | Gujarat — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced its candidates for all four Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant from Gujarat, setting the stage for what is expected to be a straightforward victory for the ruling party.
The BJP has fielded Rajubhai Shukla, Mukesh Rathwa, Mansinh Parmar, and Jitendra Kanjhariya for the Upper House elections.
Nominations can be filed until June 8, while polling is scheduled for June 18. However, with the BJP commanding a dominant strength of 161 MLAs in the 182-member Gujarat Assembly, all four candidates are widely expected to be elected unopposed. The Congress, which currently has only 12 MLAs, lacks the numbers to mount a challenge.
The candidate list reflects the BJP’s effort to reward grassroots leaders and strengthen regional representation. Jitendra Kanjhariya, a prominent leader from Devbhoomi Dwarka, is the son of former Khambhaliya MLA Meghjibhai Kanjhariya, who passed away in 2021. Mansinh Parmar is a key OBC leader from Gir Somnath and currently heads the Gujarat BJP Bakshipanch Morcha. Rajubhai Shukla has long been associated with the party organization in Kalol and Surendranagar.
The elections will also mark the departure of outgoing Rajya Sabha MPs Ramilaben Bara, Narhari Amin, Ram Mokaria, and Shaktisinh Gohil.
With the numbers firmly in its favour, the BJP is poised to retain complete control over the four Gujarat seats in the Rajya Sabha, further strengthening its representation in Parliament.
