Gandhinagar | Gujarat — A high-level diplomatic meeting in Gandhinagar has opened new avenues for cooperation between Gujarat and Russia, with a strong focus on maritime development, shipbuilding, and education partnerships.

The Consul General of Russia in Mumbai, Ivan Fetisov, met Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and expressed keen interest in expanding collaboration with Gujarat across strategic sectors. The discussions highlighted opportunities to strengthen economic and institutional ties between the two regions.

During the meeting, Ivan Fetisov noted that Russia had already been a partner country at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 and had also participated in the recent Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference. He further extended an invitation to the Chief Minister to attend an upcoming business summit in St. Petersburg.

In response, the Chief Minister emphasized Gujarat’s strong maritime ecosystem, stating, “Gujarat has the longest coastline in India and, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the state has developed a globally recognised model of port-led development.” He also highlighted that nearly 40% of India’s cargo handling is routed through Gujarat’s ports.

He further underlined Gujarat’s leadership in ship recycling and shipbuilding, along with its growing education infrastructure, including institutions such as Gujarat Maritime University, positioning the state as an emerging global knowledge and logistics hub.

The meeting also saw mutual invitations exchanged for future investment engagements and delegations, reinforcing the commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Senior officials including representatives from industries and state infrastructure bodies were present during the discussions, reflecting Gujarat’s coordinated approach to international partnerships and industrial expansion.
