Rajkot | Gujarat —- A tragic incident has shaken the medical community after a 25-year-old MBBS student and intern from AIIMS Rajkot allegedly died by suicide in the early hours of Saturday by jumping under a moving train near the Parapipaliya railway gate.

The deceased, identified as Ratan Kumar Mohanlal Meghwal, originally from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, was pursuing his medical training in Rajkot. According to police, the young doctor left the medical hostel at around 4:00 am on March 14 and reached the railway track near Parapipaliya. At around 4:45 am, he reportedly jumped in front of an oncoming train, leading to his death on the spot.

Officials from Gandhigram police station said a suicide note was recovered from the scene. Preliminary investigation suggests that the student mentioned mental distress as the reason for taking the extreme step.

“A note has been found from the deceased in which he states that he was mentally disturbed. Based on this, we have begun further investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident,” a police official said.

The body was later shifted to Rajkot Civil Hospital for postmortem examination. Authorities have informed the victim’s parents in Rajasthan, who are currently travelling to Rajkot. The body will be handed over to the family after their arrival.

Investigators also revealed that the student had attempted suicide earlier on January 28 at the same location. At that time, he had left the hostel early in the morning and reached the Parapipaliya railway track, but local villagers intervened and managed to save him before any tragedy occurred.

Following that incident, the hospital administration reportedly arranged counselling sessions for the student and informed his parents. According to officials, he was undergoing emotional stress at the time.

An official from the medical institute said the student had been counselled earlier and efforts were made to support him. “He had been mentally disturbed and counselling was provided after the earlier incident,” the official said.

The sudden death of the young intern, who had aspired to build a career in medicine, has left fellow students and family members in deep shock. Police have initiated a detailed inquiry to understand the factors behind the suicide.

Authorities said further investigation will continue after recording statements from classmates, hostel authorities, and family members.
