Vadodara | Gujarat — In a bizarre and sensational incident, a man pretending to be a CBI officer was arrested inside a Vadodara police station itself, after alert officers grew suspicious of his conduct and identity. The accused has been identified as Ghanshyam Sanghani, a resident of Vadodara, who shockingly turned out to be a bricklayer by profession.

The incident has exposed a case of bold impersonation and potential criminal intent, leaving both police and citizens stunned.

Caught inside the police station

According to officials, Sanghani had been frequently visiting the police station and introducing himself as an officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). However, his behavior and inconsistent answers raised suspicion among the officers on duty.

When questioned, he failed to produce valid identification, following which he was immediately detained and interrogated.

“The man confidently claimed to be from the CBI and even used police terminology to convince others,” said a senior Vadodara Police officer. “But his body language and vague replies gave him away.”

Shocking revelation during interrogation

During detailed questioning, police discovered that the so-called officer was in fact a daily-wage bricklayer, not affiliated with any government agency. A search of his belongings revealed fake ID cards — one showing him as a police officer and another as a journalist.

Officials believe he may have been using these bogus documents to extort or mislead people.

“It is extremely concerning that someone went to such lengths to forge identities of law enforcement and media,” said the investigating officer. “We are verifying how he obtained these fake IDs and whether others are involved.”

Investigation into motives and network

The Vadodara Police Crime Branch has launched a detailed probe to determine why Sanghani entered the police station, whether he was planning a fraud, and how many people he might have already deceived.

Authorities are also tracking the source of his forged IDs and checking if similar incidents have occurred elsewhere in Gujarat.

“This case serves as a reminder to the public to verify the credentials of anyone claiming to be from an investigative agency,” said the DCP. “The law will come down hard on those who misuse its name.”
