Ahmedabad | Gujarat —- Gujarat witnessed a spectacular automobile sales boom during the Navratri-Dussehra festive season, with vehicles worth nearly ₹3,300 crore sold in just ten days. The demand reached its peak on Dussehra day, when 44,000 two-wheelers and 10,000 cars were delivered to customers across the state, marking one of the biggest festive auto rushes in recent years.

According to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the surge was strongly driven by the implementation of revised GST 2.0 rates from September 22. The new tax structure slashed prices by up to ₹10,000 for two-wheelers and close to ₹1 lakh for cars, giving a direct boost to buyer sentiment.

“Festivals are always auspicious for new purchases, but this year’s price correction made the difference. Customers rushed to book vehicles well in advance, especially SUVs,” said Manoj Patel, President of FADA Gujarat.

SUVs and Ahmedabad Dominate Sales

In total, Gujarat recorded 1.05–1.10 lakh two-wheelers and 22,000–24,000 cars sold during the festive window. SUVs were the clear winners in the passenger vehicle category, commanding a majority of bookings.

Ahmedabad district emerged as the sales leader, with nearly 6,000 two-wheelers and 2,400 cars delivered on Dussehra day alone. Over the festive period, the city accounted for around 14,000–15,000 two-wheelers and 5,500–6,000 cars.

“Our Ahmedabad showrooms saw footfalls double compared to last year. Customers, especially first-time buyers, found the GST 2.0 discounts too attractive to miss,” said Rajesh Shah, a leading automobile dealer.

Sales 15% Higher Than Last Year

Compared to the 2024 festive season, Gujarat registered a 15% increase in automobile sales. Of the total value, two-wheeler sales contributed nearly ₹1,000 crore, while cars accounted for about ₹2,300 crore.

Analysts say the festive performance reflects strong consumer confidence in Gujarat’s economy. “The combination of tax benefits, festive spirit, and aspirational demand for SUVs turned this Navratri-Dussehra into a record-breaking season,” said auto market expert Priya Mehta.
